Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is one of the most widely used approaches in psychological counselling and psychotherapy. It focuses on understanding the connection between a person's thoughts, emotions and behaviours, and how unhelpful patterns can be identified and modified.

This foundation course introduces participants to the basic CBT framework and gives them an opportunity to practise some of the commonly used CBT skills under guidance.

The course is particularly useful for those who are beginning their journey in counselling or want to add a structured CBT approach to their existing knowledge.

What the Course Covers

The course begins with the fundamentals of CBT and gradually moves towards practical application.

Participants will learn about:

  • Basic concepts and principles of CBT

  • The relationship between thoughts, emotions and behaviour

  • Automatic thoughts and cognitive distortions

  • Basic cognitive restructuring techniques

  • Behavioural techniques used in CBT

  • CBT worksheets and their application

  • Basic assessment and case conceptualisation

  • Homework planning and behavioural experiments

  • Structuring a basic CBT session

  • Practical case discussions and role plays

  • Interactive Training — 20 Hours

Conceptual teaching, discussion and practical learning.

 

  • Guided Self-Learning — 8 Hours

Reading material and recorded resources for independent learning.

 

  • CBT Worksheets & Skill Practice — 4 Hours

Practice with commonly used CBT worksheets and basic techniques.

 

  • Case-Based Assignments — 4 Hours

Application of concepts to case situations and basic case conceptualisation.

 

  • Final Assessment — 4 Hours

MCQ examination along with viva/case discussion.

 

Total: 40 Learning Hours

Practical Work

During the course, participants are expected to complete a small set of practical activities, including:

  • Two CBT worksheets

  • One case conceptualisation

  • One basic case report

  • One role-play session

  • One homework planning exercise

These activities form an important part of the learning process and are also considered for certification.

Who Can Join?

The program is open to:

BA/BSc Psychology students, MA/MSc Psychology students, psychology interns, counsellors, educators, social workers and healthcare professionals.

It can also be considered by individuals who have a genuine interest in learning about CBT and developing basic counselling skills.

Certification

Participants will receive the CBT Foundation Certification from Mastishk Counselling & Training Institute after successfully completing the required learning activities and final assessment.

CBT Worksheets: 10%
Case Report: 30%
Final Examination (MCQ + Viva): 40%

What You Will Take Away

By the end of the program, participants should have a clear understanding of the basic CBT framework and its application in counselling.
